Valley of Elemental Stone, Taen

Recommended Posts

Valley of Elemental StoneESV.jpg

Sat on the edge of Yi’mi mountains, nestled between the gloomy peaks is The Valley of Elemental Stone. Despite Yi’mi’s atmosphere, the valley is anything but depressing. The high concentration of elemental stone has created an extremely anomalous terrain, where physics seemingly has little say in what happens. This beautiful place was only recently discovered, already considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Taen.

The high concentration of elemental stones is believed to be caused by the combination of large pockets of auranite and elemental storms blown in from Yi’mi, the high concentration of magic is believed to have caused the auranite to become volatile and explode. The resulting explosion created the valley, spreading shards of radioactive magic material across the crater which later formed the elemental stones.

Earthstones cause an ever shifting ground, slowly molding itself in random and unorthodox ways. Airstones raise large masses of earth, causing islands to float and become their own small paradise. Waterfalls endlessly pour from these islands and floating streams weave around, a result of waterstones. Random fires will break out, scorching large portions of the valley as a result of firestones. As destructive as this is, it makes way for newer creations to form. Occasionally fusions will occurs, the results of which can be unpredictable. Firestones and waterstones might create hot springs, waterstones and airstones could create small tsunamis, etc. Tho incredible, these are considered unstable combinations.

The flora and fauna has fully embraced the unique landscape, using it to their advantage. Vines connect the floating islands together and to the ground, preventing them from just floating away. Trees and bushes grow from the side of islands, as well as on top. Beautiful flowers and undergrowth cover most surfaces, strong enough to survive the ever shifting ground. Many unique and undiscovered plants grow here, the fruit they bare untouched by most. Aquatic life swims through the floating streams, trying to find a place to settle. Most predators are airborne, able to use the floating terrain to their advantage. So little is know about this valley and what it has to offer.

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Greater Gilded Boar
Classification:  Animalia, mammalia
Description: The greater gilded Boar, as the name implies, has extremely similar features to the boar. Believed to be a distant relative of the boar, the creature is far larger, muscular, and has enormous tusks protruding from the sides of its mouth. These tusks, of course, as used for fighting and attracting mates. Its fur coat comes in a variety of colors, ranging from a light orange to a dark green. Despite its large predator like teeth, it has shown to be strictly herbivorous. Showing to eat any and all plant matter, its shown a fondness for moss and fungi.

Herds move in groups of roughly 15 to 20, with only on male present. Unlike most herbivorous creatures, both males and females appear to show extreme hostility to anything deemed a threat. When a threat appears the herd forms a wall, charging and squealing which easily confusing predators. Herd prefer muddy areas, spending the majority of their time sun bathing and submerged in mud. No preference to climate specific areas has been noted, as of yet.

Notes - Extremely aggressive, caution when approaching herds.

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Lechwe
Classification:  Animalia, amphibia
Description: The lechwe is a bipedal amphibian, having two tails and eyes making up the majority of its head. Its tails are far longer than the rest of its body, nearing three times the size. It has a large crest, featuring four spikes that get shorter the further back it gets. The lechwe has extremely long long legs, with average arms. Its skin is green, starting of light around the underbelly, getting darker as it reaches around the back. Red marking are prominent around the crest and upper eyelids, with occasional marking along the back and tails.

The lechwe has no mouth, appearing to dissolve food with its saliva before consuming the juices. It consumes berries and bark, but further research is needed to determine its diet. It extremely curious, but timid. Observing from distance and darting arounding when looked at, no hostility has been witnessed. The lechwe is quick, its back legs propel the creature and high speeds.

Notes - Further research required.

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Lisvin
Classification:  Animalia, crustacea
Description: A small crustacean, measuring at 30cm long, is a common sight in any area with water. The scavenger moves in large groups, eating any organic matter it comes across. It features armor plating around the majority of its torso, whilst having none around its tail which makes up the majority of its body. However, it has the ability to self amputate its tail and fully regrow it.
There isn't much more to this tiny creature, beyond being an easy snack.

Notes - Other than shell, fully edible.

Researcher name: Iomhar Lorcan
Name: Masgo
Classification:  Animalia, aves

Description: The Masgo is a small avian creature, roughly to size of the common crow, is a common sight in the valley. It features a near fully white body, with a large crest larger than its own head. This crest appears regardless of gender, neither affecting size nor color. It features small tufts of brown at the end of its wings, tail and rear. It had three large toes, two rear toes and 'thorns' travelling up its legs.

The Masgo is carnivore, using other predators as a means of gathering food. It will track prey, showing its ability to memories the physical features of other creatures. It'll then emit calls of various predators to lure them in, using them as a means to kill the prey. Once dead, it'll then either eat alongside the predator or wait and consume the remains. This relationship has been seen on many occasions, showing the ability to mimic the calls of many predators. However, this calling technique has been used on researchers.

Notes - Looks cute, really annoying.

Researcher name: Rags
Name: Weeping Angora
Classification:  Animalia, actinopterygii

Description: The weeping angora, or just angora, is a more odd looking aquatic creature. Eel body, spear-like head, many frontal legs/arms and long fine. It is primarily blue, with occasional yellow stripes. It can be found in shallow waters, hunting smaller fish using either its spear like head of many arms. It does not appear to have many predators, being the apex predator of shallow water areas.

Notes - Warning, has an over powering taste of onions.

Researcher name: Iomhar Lorcan
Name: Ziel
Classification:  Animalia, aves

Description: The Ziel, coming in at 5.5m tall and 8m long, is an apex predator. The large beast features features 2 back legs, 2 small arms, 2 large arms, 2 wings and a crow like head. It is often described to be the odd combination of a human and crow. It has feathers on its head and wings, whilst the rest of its body is bare skin. Capable of flying at high speeds, long talons and powerful beak it can easily tear apart most explorers.

It has displayed high intelligence, having displayed the competence to judge prey from a distance before engaging, as well as mimic calls and set up basic bait traps in order to capture larger creatures. It has no know predators, nor any theorized ones. Its sight is believed to be extremely tuned, able to spot researchers from great distances. However, it has poor hearing, as researches were able to sneak behind the ziel without being noticed.

Notes - Only veteran combatants are advised to engage with the beast.

Image - Link
Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Blood Grass
Classification:  Plantae, poaceae
Description: A red grass that grows in large swards, the plant carries nothing of interest of purpose. Having no nutritional value, few creatures eat it beyond the reason of roughage. The plant is believed to leach absorb nutrient from surrounding soil, making it difficult for other plant life to grow in its place. Whilst hardy, research has shown it to be very temperature sensitive, making it difficult to thrive in the harsh condition of the valley.

Notes - n/a

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Knights Clover
Classification:  Animalia, mammalia
Description: The knights clover is a plant which bears a powerful scent of orange, able to be picked up from over 20 metres away. The plant grows to roughly 20cm in height and 50cm in width. It has 4-5 large leaves, each of which have a symmetrical lining running along in a circular pattern. The plant have a hairy stem, the small hairs having a blue hue. The plant is edible, tasting like a mixture of lemons and cherries.

Notes - Research is needed into the plants alchemic properties.

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Lantern Seed (Blood Grass Seed)
Classification:  Plantae, seed
Description: The seed of a blood grass, the floating seedling has illumicant properties that allow it to glow a vibrant red. Whilst remaining afloat for hours, the seeds to not travel far. Often replanting within other swards of around the edges of its host one, the reason for its long travel time vs its short distance is unknown. Much like blood grass, the seed offers little in any form of nutritional or even alchemic purpose. Has been used as a form of light source, but that's it.

Notes - n/a

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Steelleaf Vine
Classification:  Plantae, Eudicots, Rosids
Description: The steelleaf vine is a flowering plant that produces a large sum of edible berries, the steelleaf fruit being sweet and heavily varying in color. Native to the Valley of  Elemental Stone, the vines prefer to loosely grow along other vines rather than independently. This method of growth makes it easy to mistake the vines as part of another. The leaves of this vine are coarse, able to be used similar to sandpaper. The evolutionary purpose of this is unknown, speculated to a long underused evolutionary trait.

Notes - Research is needed into the plants alchemic properties.

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Wurm Vine
Classification:  Plantae, Eudicots, Asterids
Description: The wurm vines are enormous bulking masses of vines which naturally weaves and twist to form a large rope like plant, of which suspend many of the floating islands in place. The wurm vine varies greatly in size, having seemingly no limit to how large it can grow. These vines are extremely resilient, being both fireproof and able to support the mass of giant bodies of earth. The plant does not produce anything notable, only having minor leaves form along its base.

Notes - Research is needed into the plants alchemic properties.

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Aristether
Classification:  Elemental Spring
Description: The result of high concentration of elemental water stones in the presence of adequate elemental fire stones, the result is a body of water with similar qualities to a hot spring. The elemental water stones creates the body of water, whilst the elemental fire stones warm the water to temperatures dependent upon the stone ratio. The mixture appears to be mostly passive, with the combination forming a natural elemental equilibrium through passive resistance.

Notes - Further research is needed to fully access the dangers, similar issues such as internal pressure resulting in geysers should be taken into account.

Image - Link
Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Abandoned Tower
Classification:  Ancient Structure
Description: A large ancient structure sat between two cliff faces, its origins unknown. The giant structure through some unknown method has survived the extreme hostile environment, only cracking to time itself. Many of the banners still standing and fires still lit, it would appear alive from an outside perspective. Little is known as the interior has yet to be explored, its exterior just barely mapped out. Elemental spirits walk the halls, believed to be remnants of prior hosts.

Notes - An expedition into the structure is planed.

Phenomena

1~
Image - Link
Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: The Old Hosts
Classification:  Elemental Spirit
Description: Elemental spirits that walk the halls of an ancient tower, believed to be the remnants that once lived their. The elemental spirits come in all shapes and sizes, but are always roughly humanoid. The varieties are vast, able to possess one to several elements at once, such as fire and earth. Based on encounters so far, they do not appear hostile, but rather curious.

Notes - Research in the anomalies is plained, whilst exploring the tower they host.

2~

Researcher name: Iomhar Lorcan
Name: Valley Heart
Classification:  Natural Biomass
Description: The valley heart is a naturally occurring biomass of red liquid, having extreme healing properties. It is a large sphere of red liquid, forming whilst suspended under the vines and roots of larger plant life. The sphere when pierced will leak a red liquid which has shown to heal wounds, cure various diseases and make the skin near flawless when applied. Despite this the valley heart appears parasitic in nature, latching onto various flora and leaching nutrients. Tho, it is argued that not enough research has been conducted and it could be potentially symbiotic.

Notes - This phenomena has only been seen once. Samples have been collected, properties currently being researched.
