Research the Valley of Elemental Stone

Recommended Posts

If and only for a brief moment, Vito noticed a black figure disappear into the distance. 'Another one of the glorious creatures in this valley?' He eagerly thought to himself, eagerly awaiting his next wild discover. Slowly backing away from the pack of boars, Vito began trekking through and around the group, not wanting to disturb them.

'Dragons here?

'Looks so.'

Making his way through the brush, he came to an opening and found himself stood directly under a floating island. Water trickled down , providing the raider with a light shower. The plant life surrounding this patch was abundant, somewhat similar to the moss forest. Aeris lay down in the shade, Vito doing the same and leaning against his mount. The time continued to observe the flora, taking notes as he relaxed.

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Wurm Vine
Classification:  Plantae, Eudicots, Asterids

Description: The wurm vines are enormous bulking masses of vines which naturally weaves and twist to form a large rope like plant, of which suspend many of the floating islands in place. The wurm vine varies greatly in size, having seemingly no limit to how large it can grow. These vines are extremely resilient, being both fireproof and able to support the mass of giant bodies of earth. The plant does not produce anything notable, only having minor leaves form along its base.

Notes - Research is needed into the plants alchemic properties.

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Steelleaf Vine
Classification:  Plantae, Eudicots, Rosids

Description: The steelleaf vine is a flowering plant that produces a large sum of edible berries, the steelleaf fruit being sweet and heavily varying in color. Native to the Valley of  Elemental Stone, the vines prefer to loosely grow along other vines rather than independently. This method of growth makes it easy to mistake the vines as part of another. The leaves of this vine are coarse, able to be used similar to sandpaper. The evolutionary purpose of this is unknown, speculated to a long underused evolutionary trait.

Notes - Research is needed into the plants alchemic properties.

Gozen led Dauner to the far end of the  floating island and peeked down. He was unable to find the man he had earlier seen. Maybe he was hiding and waiting for his chance to finish them off in one blow. Maybe he was thinking of a sound strategy to get them easily. Maybe he was waiting for them to make a  mistake keeping them wide open. Or maybe Gozen was just overthinking things. Dauner reassured Gozen that there was no one who would be able to beat them both. They were the monster Duo after all.

Gozen then changed into his dragon form and took off for lower ground after Dauner had hopped on. It wasn't long before Gozen landed on the ground. Dauner got off and Gozen re-transformed. Dauner could pick up 2 auras from the distance. 1 seemed human while the other seemed magical... but alive. He had come to know that magical creatures were not a rare group in these lands. He decided to follow the path were the auras were coming from.

The mud quickly turned to red grass, the brush remained green. The land was warm, a fairly comfortable temperature. Small red particles began filling the air, lighting up the shadowed areas. Despite being so open, the land has little to no life. It seemed devoid, abandoned. It must not have offered much, catering to no one. Vito kneeled, his hand brushing over the crash.

'Doesn't seem harmful.'

'It most likely offers little in terms of sustainability, life not able to thrive in such environments.'

The red particles appeared to be seeds, floating whilst releasing a bioluminescent light. It was faint during the daylight, but when under shadows it was strong enough to be seen from many meters away. Vito sat down, begging to right down notes on the obscure but basic environment.

Out the corner of his eye he noticed something, a brick structure? In the distance appeared to be a bridge of sorts, the bricks just barely visible past the moss and vines. It sat between two large cliffs, seemingly positioned on both sides Mounting Aeris, Vito took flight to inspect the strange structure As he closer he noticed the fire, red banner and walkways. Flying between the two cliffs, it became apparent that this was an old abandoned structure. Its thousands of stones crumbling away, its fire still going. Somehow, defying impossible odds, it'd outlived the many elemental attacks.

'How is it still standing?'

'There must be some method of preservation, allowing it to resist the elements.

'We'll need an entire team for something this big.'

The ancient look tower spanned at least 150 meters tall, built within the cliffs themselves. Elemental spirits began form from earth and fire, staring at the raider as he flew by. Deciding to leave it be, the raider observed them from a distance, not wanting to anger or cause potential harm to his mount. The spirits didn't appear hostile, just curious. He observed till the sun began to set, trying to get a rough layout of the outside. Little could be done without back up, his group far too small. Deciding to call it there, the raider made his back to the ship. Bringing the expedition to a close.

Researcher name: Eli Amsen
Name: Blood Grass
Classification:  Plantae, poaceae
Description: A red grass that grows in large swards, the plant carries nothing of interest of purpose. Having no nutritional value, few creatures eat it beyond the reason of roughage. The plant is believed to leach absorb nutrient from surrounding soil, making it difficult for other plant life to grow in its place. Whilst hardy, research has shown it to be very temperature sensitive, making it difficult to thrive in the harsh condition of the valley.

Name: Lantern Seed (Blood Grass Seed)
Classification:  Plantae, seed
Description: The seed of a blood grass, the floating seedling has illumicant properties that allow it to glow a vibrant red. Whilst remaining afloat for hours, the seeds to not travel far. Often replanting within other swards of around the edges of its host one, the reason for its long travel time vs its short distance is unknown. Much like blood grass, the seed offers little in any form of nutritional or even alchemic purpose. Has been used as a form of light source, but that's it.

Name: Abandoned Tower
Classification:  Ancient Structure
Description: A large ancient structure sat between two cliff faces, its origins unknown. The giant structure through some unknown method has survived the extreme hostile environment, only cracking to time itself. Many of the banners still standing and fires still lit, it would appear alive from an outside perspective. Little is known as the interior has yet to be explored, its exterior just barely mapped out. Elemental spirits walk the halls, believed to be remnants of prior hosts.

Notes - An expedition into the structure is plained.

Full  Summary

A group of adventurers and other hired professions travel from Hydra's Haven to the Valley of Elemental stone on a research expedition, sent to gather information on the geography on the land in order to get a better understanding of the unexplored land. Whilst there the group encountered various flora, fauna and other features of the landscape. The research expedition uncovered a large variety of lifeforms and the various elemental terrains that cover it, inadvertently discovering prior life that lived within the valley. The uncovered ruins could reveal a important information of prior life in the valley, as well as how it's evolved over time.
