[Quest]Vagabond Hunt

Recommended Posts

If tiredness had a scent, Dauner, Gozen and Shelly, would reek of right now. They had walked all the way from Last Chance stopping a few times just to rest for a few hours and getting back on the road. Now here they were in front of a small and rather peaceful looking village. A sigh of relief escaped Shelly’s mouth. The guys might not have had a problem with the trek, but she still felt like it would have been a better idea to use a vehicle or even get some horses for the trip.

The group walked into the village but was welcomed by a sad sight. The villagers were mostly old folks and children. It seemed almost like most of the young and vibrant population had deserted the village, leaving those who couldn’t afford to leave, to sustain the village by themselves. The villagers were wary of the new arrivals, as if to say they were scared of their intentions. Upon studying the behaviors of the villagers, Shelly thought it better to rather leave the village at once, before someone got too excited and began to cause them trouble.

However, there was one villager who didn’t seem to be scared of them. This villager welcomed them into his hut and offered them a place to rest for the night before they continued their journey. The villager’s hut was located to the west of the village just close the forest, which was a good thing in case they had to end up making an escape from the village.

Spotting a village in the distance Clair feels rather relieved since she didn't feel like spending another night in the woods again. Especially since she didn't like the idea of something attacking her while she slept... That was probably her fault though for traveling alone again. She would probably never learn. Dusting her dress off, she makes her way for the village.

Upon arriving at it she gives a quick glance around at all the wary villagers, her head tilting a bit. She found the look she was getting odd. She was used to some since her appearance was quite different from normal adventures, but even knowing that the amount of looks shocked her a bit. Going to approach one of them she notices they back up a bit and she moves on from them not wanting to cause a problem. Even some of the children seem to be on guard... She tries to offer one some cake but upon the rejection she gives a bit of a friend and continues looking for an inn. While looking she takes note that most of the people are either older or children. Almost a complete lack of middle aged people. She wonders just what could cause such a thing to happen to a small village. Raiders? Disaster? Famine? She shakes the thoughts away as a singular villager approaches her... With a polite smile she addresses him and after a short exchange of pleasantries the man offers her a place to stay at his hut.

After arriving at his hut she thanks the man as he lets her in. The location seemed nice enough. Close to a forest, edge of the town, and... Other adventures? She looks past the door as it's opened and the man explains there are others staying. That was no problem for her though. She liked sharing tales with others... Though it would seem they were tired. She makes her way inside giving a warm smile and small nod to the others that are there.

Arashi had come through the forest outside of the village after a job she was sent around the area to do. Despite having superhuman stamina, she felt tired now and again, requiring to rest. When she went to go and visit the village, she noticed how nobody wanted to even speak with her. Apart from this one person that offered her lodging, going inside, she quickly pondered to herself before going placing all the gear she had nearby such as a huge backpack, handgun, knife, bow and arrows, and what it seemed to be grenades of sorts (luckily she was the only one that could set those off, so they wouldn't go off accidentally), including the power armour that she was wearing, she seemed to be fast asleep under the blankets of a bed before anybody else arrived. The only thing seeming very out of place was the dragon tail sticking out of the blanket somewhat. It would be a bad idea to wake her up.

As the group got settled in, Shelly noticed that even the host’s wife was feeling a bit anxious about their presence. They noticed that there was already someone in the hut fast asleep, and later in the evening, another lady joined them. Later that evening over dinner, she then decided to ask the question that had been bugging her since they arrived. “Excuse me sir! Thanks a lot once again for your hospitality. If it hadn’t been for you, we probably would have had to sleep in the forest. But I must ask though, why were the villagers so agitated when we got here? It seems as though they were scared of us

“Pay no heed to that child. They just feel a bit uneasy with every new face in town. But it’ll die down eventually” the man said.

Why are they feeling restless? Do they have something against travelers?” Gozen asked.

“Thanks for your concern, but you’re all guests here and I wouldn’t want to burden you with our problems”

It’s ok if you tell us. Maybe we can help

After a while of hesitation, the man finally decided to answer their question. “You see, the villagers weren’t always like that. We all used to be very cheerful and welcoming to adventurers. But then one day, a group of adventurers such as yourselves robbed every one of their cheerfulness. They pretended to be friendly at first, but then later, they began attacking and robbing us of our food and money. They made life miserable for us all. Because of that, most of the youths and adults have left the village and moved to cities leaving us the elderly and the children behind”. At this point, a tear ran down the man’s right cheek. “The last time they were here, they not only took food and money as they used to, but they also took my daughter”. More tears made their way down the man’s face as well as his wife’s. “Sorry about this” he said wiping the tears off.

We’ll beat them for you mister” Dauner said grinning brightly. “If we beat them, they’ll stop disturbing you right? So we’ll find them and beat them to a pulp”. Shelly and Gozen both smiled and nodded in agreement to what Dauner said.

Clair decided it best to just ignore the sleeping person as she didn't want to be rude... Or possibly get stabbed. She'd had bad run ins with people like that before... Eventually though, dinner approached. Clair politely declined the food offered as it would do nothing for her. Instead she just conjured up a slice of cake for herself as that was all she needed given who she was. As the conversation started she was also rather curious about the situation in the village...

"They do seem rather careful... Even the children seemed to avoid me..." Clair adds with a frown. She wasn't used to even children avoiding her as she normally blended in with them. She listens to the conversation carry on though. "How... How could they just take your daughter? That's.... That's so cruel and aweful..." Clair says a tear falling from her face. She agreed with the other adventurer though. "I will certainly help catch them if I can! We can't just let some no good bad guy treat this village like that!" Knowing she wasn't alone in wanting to help filled her with hope! At least she could provide help for the adventurers!

"I will certainly help catch them if I can! We can't just let some no good bad guy treat this village like that!" the lady who had joined them said showing her willingness to help them find the vagabonds.

“Are you sure it’s ok? I mean, it’s none of your business and all that” the man said with his head facing the ground.

Give it up sir. When Dauner gets that shine on his face, there’s no way to make him change his mind. And besides, I hate bullies just as much as I hate people who pick on defenseless girls. We’ll shape ‘em up in no time” Shelly finished with a wink and a smile.

Finally something to make this trip more fun. I’m in” Gozen added.

Shi shi shi” Dauner giggled. “Then that settles it. Let’s go find em…” he said getting to his feet, before sitting back and grabbing his plate. “After dinner

I think it’ll be best if we set out in the morning when we have the sunlight on our side. It’s still dangerous out there at night” Shelly suggested. Though her suggestion was somehow less of a suggestion, and more of a decision for the group. The man got on his knees and bowed his head till it was touching the floor.

“Thank you very much” he said showing his gratitude. Soon enough, Dauner was done eating and immediately went to sleep. The rest finished later before joining him. Just like that, they ended one day, and a longer one awaited them on the other side of their sleep-venture.

Clair rather liked the groups enthusiasm for this whole adventure and it seemed they were rather skilled with the way they talked. They also seemed to have known each other for quite a while so it made her wonder if she'd end up getting in the way... Most of the groups she partnered with didn't seem so close.

Clair found the idea to find the bad guys in the morning to be a good idea. Hunting things at night was always harder and besides they were eating at the moment. She couldn't help but wonder what exactly they were up against though... She tilts her head a bit at the thought before finishing up her dinner. Noticing the man now his head and thank them she shakes her head a bit with a smile. "Your welcome but there is no need for that. It's our jobs as adventures to help people in need." She says with a bright smile.

As the other rest for the night Clair is left alone she gives a small yawn before she quietly sits down against a wall and falls asleep.

Arashi got up in the morning after, away to to hunt in the morning for food for the village, and to go to the nearby town for a heap of supplies for the hungry villagers that were left starving by the adventurers after she was briefed by the old man in the hut she was staying in. Coming back in the early morning with tons of food that she stored away in her personal pocket dimension, she got to work, making breakfast for everybody, including herself, as well for the apparent people visiting the hut that she was staying in for the next few days in order to get enough rest to continue onto the next place.

Arashi set up a big enough camp fire for how much food she was making to feed everybody. She luckily bought more than enough bread from the town she went to, as well as enough vegetables, eggs, rice and finally the meat she went to hunt for, which she prepared and put in the stew she was making along with everybody else.

At least it would be ready when everybody else woke up. She hated to not have more than three times as much for everybody as she wasn't too sure how much those people in that tent would eat even. She sat outside, putting her hand on a piece of wood, lightning up the campfire with a huge pot over it, her hand surrounded in flames. Nearby was her armor and tools...along with alot of waste and three massive sacks of bread.

A long night sleep was what they needed, and a long night sleep was what they got. After being so tired the previous night, the trio ended up sleeping deep into the morning, only waking up after the sun was comfortably seated in the sky. Shelly was the first to wake up. After waking up, she began to prepare the things they’ll need for the adventure they were about to embark on. She noticed the lady that was asleep when they arrived. She seemed to be preparing food. Shelly decided to help with the cooking. She might be a good cook, but she knew a thing or two, and she can always take instructions from those who know better.

By the time Dauner and Gozen woke up, the cooking had already been completed. They both sat with the others in the old man’s hut to eat breakfast before they would move on to adventure.

Clair was the third one to wake up. The yawns and stretches a bit before standing up and noticing that the girl who was out cold when she got there was up and she could smell something cooking. Taking a peak in the kitchen she notices the other two girls cooking. She was curious if she should help them or not since she knew how to cook fairly well but that would make three in the kitchen at once... Deciding that she would make to many, Clair decides to pick up a bit and clean the man's little hut. She felt it was the least she could do to be nice to him for giving them a place to stay.

By the time the he food is done she stops cleaning and joins the rest of the group making sure she goes and tells the nice old man in case no one else did. Like with dinner the night before though Clair doesn't eat what was cooked instead resorting to summoning her own cake and eating that.

As soon as they were done with breakfast, it was time to set out into the forest to begin their search, but they couldn’t do it without appropriate information. Shelly went to see the old man, and ask him for all the necessary information they needed to know. After having a talk with him, she went to the others and completed preparations for the journey. Not too long later, they were good to go.

We’re all set” Shelly said zipping up Dauner’s backpack. Gozen then picked up the backpack and threw it on his back.

Then let’s get going then” Gozen suggested. The three then began walking in the direction in which the vagabond always left the village in.

Arashi fixed up her equipment and put it away, watching the two "false" dragons walk away in the distance, stopping past the old man and heading torwards the forest. She had picked up their scent from afar, disgusted at the fact two humans with dragon blood was nearby. She hated lowlevel humans who merely only had dragon blood and the inability to do anything with it. Donning her power armor on, complete with her helmet, pistol, bow, alongside other gear such as her knife etc, she edged forward behind them, disappointed in their scent. Prehaps, it'd give it away that she's a dragon too with her scent and the tail.

"Damn false dragons..." she muttered under her breath angrily.

Clair was glad to see most of the party in high sprits! That meant the day would drag on or be boring. She always hated when it got full on adventures. She happily followed along helping prepare things. Mostly just prepping meals for the others to eat as that was something she was good at. Once it was all set up and the other three started to head out she noticed the other girl was following along. She saw her mumble something but couldn't make it out. She followed along beside her. Mostly because Clair knew she wasn't much help if the got jumped but also because she didn't want the girl to get lonely.

She wondered why the girl had a strangish look. It was obvious she wasn't human... Or at least not fully human as she had a tail. It appeared draconic but Clair didn't know much about half breeds. Clair herself wasn't human. She was a self proclaimed God of cake. She clearly didn't give off a human scent. Instead always giving off a rather sweet smell close to that of freshly baked cakes. She wandered along behind the girl though with out saying much and instead just taking in all that was around.

The group departed, seemingly divided into two groups: the noisy bunch made up of Dauner, Gozen and Shelly, and the quiet bunch made up of Clair and Arashi. The noisy bunch was busy talking about the vagabonds and what they’ll do when they get them. Dauner was interested in the food they had been stealing, while Shelly was more into the fact that they had stolen money. She disliked all those who stole money, except for those that she liked, and herself.

As the party progressed deeper into the forest, they were ambushed by 4 demi-humans; 2 with swords, 2 with bows. The demi-humans were cat people. “Surrender your money and everything you have, and we’ll let you go” one of them said in a threatening tone.

I found them. They’re the bad guys right?” Dauner asked excited to get into a fight.

Can’t you tell the difference between harassing vagabonds and common bandits. These guys hardly look like they could harm a fly” Shelly replied.

Really? Then I guess we’ll keep searching then” Dauner said walking away with a disappointed look on his face

The bandits were partly confused by what was going on, but mostly mad at Shelly for what she said. “Watch your mouth” one of them said to Shelly. “Or we’ll teach you to”

Hey D, if you’re not going to, can I beat them up instead?” Gozen asked.

Do you need Dauner’s permission for that?

This was when the bandits made a shocking realization.

Arashi saw what was going on and watched from a distance before pulling the gun out of her holster on her right side of her waist, cocking it back and loading it before aiming directly at one of the bandits and fired directly aimed at one of their heads with a single bullet. Arashi was an expect marksman after all, she almost never missed a shot unless it was up against a faster foe that was able to dodge bullets of all things.

Sighing, she watched what would happen after she fired that shot.
