[Port Kyros] Magic in the Books

Recommended Posts

Being a non-native of the city, Leon and his mates have taken quite the while to travel through the Kastoria district. Which Leon in it of itself found quite the experience, walking around with a small scantily clad goblin and a face painted voodoo singer tend to get eyes on you. It was attention grabbing to him in all of the right ways, which was perfect for him. After the time with his first band in which he was…frankly a bit more of a totalitarian, he decided to relax a bit. While Musical perfection will always remain his goal, he found that later that the band needed camaraderie before anything else, which was why they were on their way to the next stop. It was a Friendship building exercise, an extra posted mission before he left Port Kyros for a while. He had stayed far enough and it was time for him to head back out onto the road, he merely wanted to see if the two were prepared for such. As they finally met with the marble stairs of the Bravot Library, Leon took a deep breath. He ruffled his right hand through his hair, turned around and gave a nob.

“Well, this should be the place, Quite the Looker isn’t it?”

He looked at the two story, marble tower and tilted his head. It wasn’t an ugly form of architecture, but he felt it was odd where it was placed. The near Gothic inspired stained glass window made it seem more like a Monastery or a Church than an actual Library. This wasn’t helped by the fact that there seemed to be priest walking into and out of the building at a rapid place. This was clearly not just a mere library of the recreational reading kind. “Gotta thank you two again for heading with me, you could’ve just stayed at the inn you know, and actually spend that earning from the last one, yeah?” He spoke with a grin. It was his way of giving them the option to turn back. He was sure the mission wasn’t COMPLETELY dangerous, but just in case they didn’t feel up for it, he wasn’t going to force them.  Leon took the quick second waiting for their response to look up at the skies, and give somewhat of a laugh. He had seen more air travel here than he thought he would and was relived, maybe fuel wouldn’t be so hard to come by for his tour vehicle.

t3DRePI.pngAdolf Hitler burst out of the front double doors on the back of a Triceratops.

Splinters exploded outward as the beast stampeded through the door with such visceral force the double doors were torn off the hinges. Screaming profanely in German, crowds shrieked in answer and gave a wide berth, fearing for their lives.

Hot on his heels was the tiny lavender cat. Mephisto hissed, baring his fangs at colossal beast, "Return from whence you came, creature!" Here, in the open it was far too dangerous to unleash his power, not with so many eyes watching. Still, he could not allow a magic induced entity loose in the city unchecked, "This is not a war! Return to your book, quietly!" There was visible restraint, knowing full well what the answer would be.

Hitler smiled a cruel smile before turning the great Dinosaur around, "It is not the truth that matters, but victtoorrryy!" Spurring his steed on, the Fuhrer of Germany took off to terrorize the city. A gaggle of mages rushed out of the Library's crumpled doors to give chase, "Quickly! Quickly, after him!" Mephisto cried in vain. Now there was all manner of clamoring. A whale was stuck on one of the moving floors. Pirates were sword fighting in the Lobby. Librarian Mages were screaming while clinging desperately to the neck of an Ostrich.

Zengi's zombies were attacking stranded patrons that were inside when the storm hit. The mage storm that started it all. Lord Roen of Patia--or rather, the likeness of him from a History of Patia was flailing around, screaming in delirium from Warp Dust--naked as the day he was born while gallivanting on the back of a Unicorn screaming nonsense("WE WILL PROVIDE THE HAMS!"), his sword threateningly pointed at any mage who dared to approach him ("HAVE YOU TRIED A TANGERINE? WOULD YOU LIKE TO?!"), all the while a line of Gaianists were wandering the halls in prayer.

It was a complete disaster. Mephisto grunted before turning back for the library when he paused. He had received word from young Artamese that she was sending assistance to the Library.

Judging by the outlandish description and their matching appearance they had arrived, "You four--you are sent by Mistress Prewitt? By the gods, get inside. My staff can only do so much!" Tail flickering with annoyance, the Articat trotted for the open doors, tail raised in alert, "And whatever you do, don't get lost!"

"It's something." Dreggz noted. She'd been out in the sun for a long time now, and somewhere in the middle of her hair somewhere she was starting to sweat. Her hands were behind her head, her neck resting across her arms as she attempted to air her hair out.

The last few weeks had been a big change for the goblin. Between Leon and Samedi (Iwa was kind of boring to say, so she called him 'Sammy' when she was trying to get in his pants) the goblin suddenly never wanted for company of a friendly sort. Try as she could, Leon wasn't the type to be tempted by her feminine wiles, and poor, sexy Sammy was either clueless, or not interested in her, which was surely impossible. So yes, she was sort of without 'company', but didn't mind it for a change.

She eyed the Library, and sniffed dismissively. It was a big building, and probably a marvel of modern architecture, but she didn't really know much about it to say anything beyond it was 'something.' Wasn't art like this meant to invoke a certain feeling? She recalled hearing once that buildings were instilled with the 'spirit' of the designer, something called animus. Yet, looking at the Bravot Library, she didn't really feel anything of that sort.  She paused, and attempted to 'brute force' that feeling for a few seconds. Leon and Samedi continued onward a few paces, but didn't get far. She ignored Leon mostly when he glanced back at the two and spoke:

Her feelings on Leon were pleasant, mostly. He knew what he was doing with a guitar, and didn't mind when she elected to flirt and drink more than perform. It suited her, she thought, to have somebody she could rely on when she was on stage. The fact that he wasn't interested in her was nice, too. It kind of meant that she could hang out with him like she could anybody else she wasn't interested in harassing. That didn't mean he wasn't a jackass, though. She scowled at him, but he laughed it off. The goblin returned to examining the Library.

"Aren't these things supposed to be like, living architecture or something?" She complained. "Look at it; it's just a big, ugly building! Where knowledge comes to life, my ass!"

She waved her arms up at the building, as if trying to wake it up. There were a few curious clads at the squat green girl flapping her hands at the building.

Around that point, the earth trembled, and something crashed through the doors. The goblin dropped her arms, and stared, eyes flying open, as a short man rode out of the library on the back of a massive armored beast.

She barely saw who was shouting at the rampaging animal, but caught a flicker of...purple? Bouncing down the steps after the great beast was a small, but incredibly fluffy purple cat!

The beast hurled itself down the stairs towards the city behind them, and Dreggz dove to safety as it stomped past her. She missed being crushed by about a head, and stared at the fleeing...who even was that guy?

She wondered, briefly, if he was single, because apparently he had dinosaur money.

Sorcerers and mages stampeded down the stairs after the man, and Dreggz got to her feet as they passed by. The purple critter, the goblin saw it early, chasing the guy on the monster, was there too, and it paused to look at them.

"Hm."

Dreggz got to her feet, and looked around in amusement.

"You guys think this is related to that shop we visited earlier? Could be over just as fast, if we know where to go."
